PRESS RELEASE
FOUR GENTLE GIANTS SWIM TO THE AID OF CHARITY
Four Alvis Stalwart ex military amphibious vehicles will take part in a sponsored swim on Glen Riddings, Ullswater on Sunday May 20th to help raise money for Heart & Lung Charity - New Start - which supports the Transplant Centre at Wythenshawe Hospital, Manchester.
Local man and father of 4, Ivan Flavell of Elland, Halifax aims to raise both money and the profile of organ donation as he is currently on the waiting list at Wythenshawe Hospital for a Lung Transplant. A third of the names on the waiting list die for lack of suitable donors - of which there is a desparate shortage nationally. Ivan is taking an active role to not only keep himself busy whilst waiting for his transplant but to raise awareness of the problem with organ donation and to raise much needed funding for the Unit that will eventually save his life. What a lot of people do not realise is and are surprised at is that the Transplant Centre at Wythenshawe is their local hospital for such life saving opertions. It serves the North West and all of it's citizens.
Janice Taylor of New Start said: “This is a fabulous event to participate in for all the family, helping to raise money for the heart and lung patients we support. Please support us it really does make a difference to saving lives.”
