I regret to inform you that Brig Peter Vaux OBE passed away on Wed 6th February aged 96. Brig Peter was commissioned into the Fourth (RTC) in ’37. He served with 4 RTR throughout the war, both during the Arras Counterstroke in ’40 and the Western Desert campaign. In addition, he served as Chief Int Offr HQ 7 Armd Div prior to El Alamein and as Bde Maj of 7 Armd Bde until wounded in Italy in Sep’44 where he was Mentioned in Despatches. Post-war, he served with: 5 RTR; with HQ 7 Armd Bde; the Armd School Fort Knox, Kentucky; and again with 4 RTR. His key appts included: CO 6 RTR in ’58 and then 3 RTR after amalgamation in ‘59; Col GS Instr at Camberley in ’60; on promotion Comd Malaya Area in ’64; DA & QMG HQ 1 (BR) Corps in ’66; and Dep Dir Security (Army) in ’69. After retirement in ’71, he lived in Hampshire and worked for ten years both in the UK and abroad with the MOD. R.I.P Sir.
