http While in F/bostel '76 volunteers were required to use up 10 days annual leave and go to Holland as extras for the film,"A Bridge Too Far".The top photo shows me as a sgt in the Irish Guards in the turret of a Sherman.2nd photo shows one of our fitters who was my dvr and the bottom photo shows director Richard Attenburgh and Michael Caine moving up to the filming area. Two of our lads(Geoff Moore and Rick Pickering) are shown in the film in close up shouting"Fire".Because this was deemed to be a speaking part they got a lot more money than us.I am available for autographs and photos at a reasonable price!!

Who was the fitter mate? (George?) I remember Ian (Ginge) Byrne crashed a 'plastic' Sherman into a wall and broke it!

Sorry Sapper826,I knew him well but age takes its toll. There was about 3 or 4 real shermans and the rest were plastic moulds on landrover chassis.George

Talking of plastic, I'm sure you'll remember the rubber bullet that 'took you out' in tin city!

I certainly do.I was part of the 'mob' chucking stones and petrol bombs at the patrol. It was about 23.30 and as I bent down to pick up a stone something struck me in the face and knocked me over.Took out two teeth and left a friction burn on my right cheek which took about 6 mths to disappear.I found out later that it was Tpr Cordie who fired the baton gun at me.Were you there then?

Sapper was one of the two metalsmiths (welder) and I was an A mech with C Sqn, but moved into C&S for the Armagh visit - check out the photo I posted in the attached folder "Came across this" - I'm sitting on the floor to the left of Dinger Bell, directly underneath Tanky. Sapper is on the back row4th left next to Jim Hammel

I remember when I joined the Reagt half the guys were away on leave, the rest seemed to be away filming!
That's why I ended up stagging on for the weekend as soon as I got off the damn lorry from Hannover airport!

Hi Green Tanky Read with interest your incident in Tin City. I have to put my hand up, as I was the baton gunner that night. It was an accident in the sense that I bounced the rubber bullet off the floor ,as we had been instructed.Apolagies for the damage done,I made enquiries about seeing you but was advised to let things cool down as things were running hot.I ve finally caught up after36 years. Regards Mike Cordey

Mike Cordey....I was going to see you after I recovered but never got round to it then I left the regt in April '77.I still have the original bullet(probably got your prints on it) but I never thought I'd hear from you.Anyway, best of luck.George Dobson
