hi malc, was that replen demo at bovvy ? looks a bit like gallows hill ! Yep, that was battle day 1987/8 - The day the CO told me (as I had a camera on me) to get on the Castle air chopper ride and take shots of the car parks so next year the layout would be easier!!He even gave me a ticket!! Sat opposite some old girl scared witless and calmed her and told her it'd be fun....even though I'm a 'nervous' flyer myself!!! Took off....... got chucked around mercilessly................felt sick...............watched the old girl giggle inanely as she loved it.......................took photos..............got out.........puked up..........never been in a chopper since!!!!!!

Don't you mean a 'Fahrschule' plate mate?!! OOOOOOOOHHHHAAAARRRRRRRR - Fahrschule!!Twer indeed. I never forgave Ugly for that one. To cap it all, on the way back up the run firing over the backdecks...............Ugly hit a bump, just as Smurf completed firing now, the DST Trace dissapeared somewhere around the O Zone!!!! Possibly started Global warming?!?!? Taz to be said he wasn't driving this sucker though. Here's one for you Stally fans - Bovvy battle day 88. I will be turning parts of this into a stally artwork project.

To all in this thread, Pecker mentioned that on a recent visit to your Valhalla, certain amongst you saw the Third's carwindow sticker. My offer is this, though I make a small profit on my artwork I designed and printed the stickers at only the cost that I incurred including postage. Therefore, if you come up with an idea to match the Third's I'll design and do the same thing for you. The stickers would come as a pair the pair consists of one windscreen and one self adhesive backed. Bear in mind that the image is of the print proof so is the same height as the RTR badge and as long as the text! If your 'appointed' leader would contact me I'll get onto it. I would propose to do this as a bulk order which would save you P&P and make an opportunity to 'make a little cash' into the fund. Fear Naught to all of you and I'm glad to see you all and that you've found a 'web home' with us in the Third.

Update! TC rang me last night, he has asked if I'd be able to set up some sort of stall at the reunion (Holiday Inn just outside Brizzel) with my book and prints. I've told him yes and, there'll be a contribution both to the fund(from sales) and a book and print into the raffle. So, I guess and hope I'll be seeing most of you there. He is slightly concerned that he won't get a strong turnout, I assured him that Plip, Stan Janner and myself are more than capable of drinking the bar dry but, nevertheless, hopefully people will support and turn the fcuk up?!?!?

OOOOHHHAAAARRRRRRR Mi Booties!! It may, just may be of interst to some..................In WW2 3RTR was recorded as having the longest time in enemy contact of any allied unit during the war, it was virtually always in the Hun's face. The Regiment fought with distinction and was 'sacrificed' to the last vehicle (and nearly last man) on 3 occasions, as Lizzie rightly points out......Calais 1940, Greece shortly after and then North Africa 'Up the blue'. The Regiment was leading in front of the Allied army as it raced for the Baltic sea, where it had essentially been ever since leaving Normandy during op Goodwood. Not many regiments can claim this level of fame, considering the RTR was such a 'newcomer' to the battlefield, an illustrious record indeed!!!
A really good read (apart from my impending book) is 'A view from the turret' by Bill close now sadly RIP. It goes 1930's right to the end of WW2 as a Tank Commander in A Sqn 3RTR. A cracking good read.

In Paderborn The following were definately apparent - RHQ FSC's 21 - Count then the 2 rebros were Cannon and Chatterbox as the establishment changed from 1 to 2 FSCs.
C Sqn - IIRC 0B was in fact Chivalrous and Charger was spare. And the ambulance 14B was in fact called 'Crockbrack'.
Pecker, we need to talk about my website you busy high flyer you!!!

Visited Eden a couple of years back, bit of a hike from Merseyside for a day trip but, to be fair, very interesting place glad to see people are still prepared to put effort and time into keeping, memories alive but, more importantly perhaps, youngsters being educated in the wicked ways of warfare. My 7 year old (yes I left it late in life) loved it, after I found him having discovered he wanted to play hide n seek without actually telling us!!

All In order to remember that tomorrow heralded a 'New dawn' in modern warfare......
Special Order No 6
1. Tomorrow the Tank Corps will have the chance for which it has been waiting for many months, to operate on good going in the van of the battle.
2. All that hard work and ingenuity can achieve has been done in the way of preparation.
3. It remains for unit commanders and for tank crews to complete the work by judgement and pluck in the battle itself.
4. In the light of past experience, I leave the good name of the Corps with great confidence in their hands.
5. I propose leading the attack of the centre division.
Hugh Ellis
19th Nov 1917 Commanding Tank Corps
Distribution: To Tank Commanders
To you all, happy Cambrai.

Over on the ARRSE thread I've been 'displaying' some artwork I've been working on, I have been asked if I could display this work on here. Firstly, I should like to explain my artwork so you all understand what it's about mates. I have never had any formal art training having ditched 'O' Level art at school in favour of German! I have always drawn as a hobby and really enjoy it. In Paderborn I was responsible for designing more C Squadron sweatshirts than I can remember. Anyway, this year I was doodling and thinking of the 90th Anniversary of Cambrai. I came up with a drawing of 5 crewmen and their Mk IV Male (the other 3 crewmen probably being drunk somewhere?!), added some lyrics from a song of 1916 called 'When the Tanks broke the ranks in Picardy' and also Special Order No 6. The picture shows the guys the day before Cambrai thinking about S.O. No 6 and the coming battle the next day. I took a poor photo and posted it on Arrse - next thing I know I've had to get it produced into prints. It's large at A1 size and has been selling as a signed limited edition at £45 incl P&P. I still have some left so feel free to contact me to order one they come in tubes by 1st class post. I will never get rich or make a living from this, I just like to be able to give mates memories, so all 3RTR get discounted prices more on that later. Either way even if you don't want one feedback good or bad is always welcome so see what you think of the Cambrai print? Incidently the printer put a protector word over it - it doesn't come with that on it!!?!?!

Now then all, let's just get the pasty thing right!! Last time I were in Plymuff I just HAD to go to Ivor Dewdney's for a belly full!! But, Oggy.........yes, it's actually a Plymouthian term......I were born in Devonport so should know!!! My Grandfather was in the Navy WW1 then got pensioned off HMS Hood about a month afore she sailed against Bismark. Here's a pic of Hood at Plymouth, my Grandpa on the capstan!! He related the following story about the origin of the Oggy!! Twas twixt the wars, outside the gates of Devonport dockyard there was a chap named Ogden (Oggy) who sold the Plymouth version of the Cornish Pasty (which we all should know had fish in the original recipe aswell as meat). Now, one morning, as Oggy plied his trade at NAAFI break, a cart and nags carrying naval gun barrels rushed out the gates and, ran over the vendor. Ever after, pasty's in Plymouth were known as.................Oggys!!!! There endeth the first chapter now, let's all bow our heads in .................sugar!!!!let's not!!!!! Lesson according to A3B..........Don't...I say again DON'T take yer Liverpudlian Mrs to Polperro and, in a pasty shop, let her ask for Brown Sauce!!!!!Even tho I told her not to, she'd have none of it...............the look the woman gave her followed by....."Ere luvvie, you don't be needing brown sauce with our pastys they tastes that good!!!" Was, ............enough!!!!!Priceless!!
