Hi all, just been looking at the photo,s of the centurion tanks, as a driver of the said tank for a number of years,it must rate as one of the greatest AFV,s there ever was.It went head to head with various tanks from all over the world and has served the R.A.C. in days gone by with Honor and distinguish, I;m sure listening to the gunnery lessons that we have had on the cent guns, may be some ex cent drivers could add there views? ?.

Have to agree with you Anthony, the Centurion was certainly a "drivers tank". Unlike todays MBTs which almost go by themselves.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Gordon this will stir up memories I hope.Talking about driving Centurions,do you remember a bloke called Chris Fiddemore (ex Sixth) He could make a Cent gearbox talk,he really was a top driver. He was also a great friend of General Lee and Jim Lodge.

Alf The Fiddimore I remember was in SHQ A Sqn at the same time as me 55/56 He was the 2i/cs driver at the time, a Capt Willls. I seem to remember his name was Brian, but I could be wrong. But as you say he was a brilliant driver, had blond tightly curled hair. Jock Sandilands was the OCs driver, Jim Earle drove the SSMs dingo (The Black Mamber) Wollaston, and Danny Dance drove the 1 tonner(Austin K9) & I drove the OCs (Hugo Ironside RIP) Willys jeep. Scouse Evans was Trp Sgt.

I think you are being a bit "Picky" there Soprano. Apart from the Comet most, if not all the rest started out life as a CENTURION!! And that is how they will be remembered by those who served in them And just in case you still need to piss on someones bag charges, look elsewhere, we didn't have them then!!!!!!!!!!!

In Detmold when he joined us from the 6th i'm pretty sure he was a full screw. Going by your description we've got the same bloke. Told you my memory was shot.
