BOURNEMOUTH, POOLE & DISTRICT BRANCH, ROYAL TANK REGIMENT ASSOCIATION.
22 people sat down with another 14 linked in by zoom for the October 2022 branch meeting. We had the Loyal Toast (the first for the King) and the toast to the Regiment. We welcomed a visitor, Tony Ferguson ex 1 RTR. Sadly, the Green Fields and welfare section took longer than usual to complete. Minutes of the September 2022 branch meeting were passed.
There was a recap of Septembers activity, which included laying a wreath for HM the Queen at Poole Park, a wreath for Lt Scowen at Bournemouth (105th anniversary) Families Day at Bulford, Welfare visits and funerals. An update was given on the Wreath laying service at Moreton on 2nd November 2022. Funding has been obtained for a small reception at the Frampton Arms at Moreton afterwards, and a minibus will be available to provide a shuttle service between the bench and the Frampton Arms.
Details of the message from the Colonel Commandant following the death of HM The Queen were given. An update on Cambrai 105 was given and members were asked if they were interested in the proposed Pre-Cambrai 105 brief at the Tank Museum presented by David Willey.
Members were asked to get their Ladies Lunch returns to the event organisers. The Secretary said that he had received some concerns from members about the annual December Social and that the numbers attending had been declining in the last couple of years. Members were informed that we would gauge the attendance this year and then look to the future. Note! The December social is simply a December branch meeting but without any business taking place, people bring food, nibbles and the like, a sort of NAAFI break but without Danish Milk!
Members were asked to consider names of people who would benefit from a Christmas welfare hamper.
The committee asked for people to indicate if they were interested in the proposed trip to Ypres in June 2023. Enough were interested to allow planning to begin. Although this is unlikely until after Cambrai 105.
We were given short briefing on the Armed Forces Ride to the Wall at the National Memorial Arboretum by one of those who attended. In addition to the main event, The RTR folk who attended held a short wreath laying service at the RTR plot. A branch wreath was laid by one of our members and it was agreed to supply a branch wreath for this event every year.
An update on our financial position (healthy) was given.
It was announced that the Guest Speaker for November 2022 would be Col (retd) Tim Hall, RTR former CO of 1 RTR
Octobers Guest Speaker was unable to attend but we did manage to get a last-minute replacement who did his presentation via zoom. William Spicer of the Veteran’s Forge left us spellbound after detailing what he and others do for veterans in Dorset. Too much to detail here but “I have a link” to the Facebook page for you to view.
