19 people sat down tonight with another 7 linked in via Zoom. We had several members missing due to holidays & work, but this was compensated by 4 new members and two visitors. The visitors were Col (retd) Tim Hall former CO of 1 RTR, and Ian Lyons also ex 1 RTR. We welcomed new members Brian Setchell ex 12th Royal Lancers, Colin Parr (2 RTR) David Owens (8 RTR) and Syd Ede who is an ex Civil Servant and worked for the MOD.
The Chairman gave a detailed welfare update on several our members and brought us up to date. Minutes of the July meeting were read. There was a recap of our July & August activity with emphasis on the Branch BBQ, VJ Day commemoration and the branch visit to the Tower of London.
The secretary confirmed that a branch update article has been submitted to HHQ for inclusion in the next edition of the Regimental Journal. A last call for support for the Regimental Families Day on 24th September 2022 was made. Members were invited to join the secretary in laying a wreath at the grave of Lt Scowen, Tank Corps, on Sunday 25th September, this at the Gloucester Road cemetery in Bournemouth. The date is the 105th anniversary of his death, we regularly place crosses on the grave but for 105 it will be a wreath. In the same vein, A reminder was given of the Moreton bench wreath laying service on 2nd November 2022.
An update on Cambrai 105 was given which included copies of the letter confirming the dress code for the Regimental events taking place during event in France.
A reminder was given that those wanting to attend the Bovington Cambrai Lunch need to get their names on the attendance list.
The secretary stated that at the October branch meeting he would be bringing a pack of 8 bottles of Herforder Pils (Yellow Handbag) as a raffle prize. However, after calls from those linked by Zoom, it was decided that this prize would be presented at the Ladies Lunch in January so that more people could have the chance of winning it.
Following the monthly meeting, the Annual General Meeting (AGM) was held. The minutes of the 2021 AGM were read out, and the branch committee was re-elected for another year. The Chairman gave his address which highlighted the high level of activity of the Bournemouth & Poole branch. With the treasurer unavailable, the Chairman gave the Treasurers update. The President also gave a short address.
Ian Lyons our 1 RTR visitor officially joined the branch after the meeting. We did of course try to empty his bank account when he visited the branch shop to look at what we have to offer.
