Bournemouth, Poole & District Branch RTRA
OCTOBER 2021 BRANCH MEETING
13 members physically present with another 12 logging in remotely via Zoom. The Zoom has been upgraded and improved by the purchase of added screens, camera's and microphones. Those at home can now see both the committee and the members in the room as well as the other Zoom participants. The members in the room have a screen which lets them see what the Zoom people are seeing. The only other difference is that while those present are looking at copies of the minutes of the previous meeting, the secretary reads them out for the benefit of the Zoom audience.
The branch agreed to fund the cost of the wreaths laid in Weymouth on ANZAC Day & US Memorial Day. Previously these had been covered by individual donations from inside & outside of the branch, but the increased level of wreath laying has meant that the "donation" route is under strain. Members were reminded that the Mayor of Bournemouth is the guest speaker for the November meeting. A reminder about the RTR march to the Cenotaph on 21st November was also given. It was confirmed that the RTRA annual Church Service & Curry Lunch will be held on Sunday 20th March 2022. The service is held in the Garrison Church at Bovington, with the Curry Lunch afterwards in the Armour Centre Officers Mess.
Official guests at the Ladies lunch were discussed and it was agreed to donate £50 per year the North Road Social Club (our venue) for use of the facilities. This matches what the other Military Associations using the venue are donating. Barry Schultz let the branch know about the Lecture evenings at Lytchett Matravers School which recently hosted Lt Col (ret'd) Dick Taylor, and confirmed he would update us about any future lectures there that might be of interest to us.
The October meeting closed and the 2021 AGM began. The minutes of the 2019 AGM were available (no 2020 AGM-Covid-19). The address list was updated, the Chairman's annual address was given, followed by the Treasurers report which showed we were richer than two years ago. Dave Larcombe was thanked for his efforts in organising and facilitating the introduction of Zoom technology into the branch meetings, and basically running the whole Zoom show.. The Committee was thanked for their efforts in the past year. The Committee was re-elected for a further year with just one change. Dave Orman has become the new Treasurer.
