September 2021.
The first physical branch meeting since March 2020 has occurred. 17 people including 5, yes, 5 new members were present. We also had 9 people connected via Zoom for what was the first ever joint physical & remote meeting of an RTRA branch. We held a minutes silence for the two members we have lost since the last meeting, Dave Ellis (Covid-19) and Bill Stebbing (Old age).
The minutes of the March 2020 meeting were quickly read as they were mostly about future events all of which were cancelled. The secretary confirmed that a branch update is being sent to HHQ for inclusion in the Regimental Journal. He also reminded everyone that the cut off date for articles is September 30th 2021. Details of the RAFA Battle of Britain Service in Poole were given. The branch standard will be present.
Members were informed that the October meeting is also the AGM any anyone wishing to run for office can do so at the meeting. It was also announced that the guest speaker for November will be the Mayor of Bournemouth who is also the Bournemouth,Christchurch & Poole (BCP) Council "Armed Forces Champion". So that should be interesting. The secretary did stress that no one should use this as an opportunity to "have a go" at the Mayor about items unrelated to his presentation to the branch. The message was clear, There is a time and place for that, and a branch meeting where the Mayor is a guest of the branch is not the correct time or place!
We have asked for a Weymouth resident to volunteer to lay a branch wreath at Weymouth War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday. As we now have a number of Weymouth residents as branch members, we feel the branch should be represented in Weymouth on Remembrance Sunday.
Members were reminded about the RTR march to the Cenotaph on Sunday 21st November 2021. An update on the Ladies Lunch was given. The branch voted to purchase a ceremonial flagpole base which can be used to hold the branch standard on functions like the ladies Lunch. Questions from the floor were then asked and answers given, assuming of course we actually had the answer!. The Chairman then closed the meeting and introduced the guest speaker, our very own Carl Litherland -Payne who gave us a true update on Ajax and Challenger 3. The content of the presentation I'm afraid cannot be put on here.
