13 members attended the March 2019 branch meeting.
The branch was informed of the very positive feedback from many sources about our 100 year grave side commemeration in Bournemouth In February. Final call for names regarding the RTRA Church Service and Curry Lunch was made. Application forms for RAC 80 attendence at Bovington on 4th April 2019 were available to all. It was confirmed that the location of the Ladies Lunch in January (Sandbanks Hotel, Poole) will be available for us to use again in January 2020. Copies of the latest Regimental Journal were available to view.
Details of the Op Banner 50 event at the National Arboretum in August 2019 were made available. It was agreed to create the post of Vice President, to provide a source of assistance to the commitee if required. It was agreed to contribute 100% of the raffle takings at the next meeting to April's guest speakers. The Charity "Children of Fiji" who are based in Dorchester.
It was confirmed that the branch BBQ would again be held in August, with a date to be confirmed at the April meeting.
The Chairman then closed the meeting and introduce the guest Speaker, Capt (Retd) Dean Hutton, the new Regimental Secretary.
Dean introduced himself, gave some background history, including 22years+ in the 17th/21st Lancers / QRL. He then gave us an update on some of the changes that are happening. First and Foremost, now that we are a "Single Battalion" Regiment, the post of Regimental Colonel has been lost, and his work combined with that of the Regimental Secretary. The RTRA rule book is going to be re written and updated, a new RTRA website is being created which will be inter active and be a vast improvement on what has been before. It is planned to link it with Association Branch websites so that those on the site can view individual branch sites as well.
He mentioned the benevolent support given by the Regimental funds to those in need. They won't give cash, but have supplied, hearing aids, carpets, White goods, mobility scooters etc. They are also negotiating with the Tank Museum to get Association card holders a 10% discount at the Museum Restaurant. They are also talking to them about Tankfest and veterans attending.
He gave advance warning of "ARRAS 80" in 2020. It is planned to hold a major event at Arras to commemerate the 1940 "counter attack" by 4&7 RTR (and others). It will not be on the scale of Cambrai 100, but it will significant.
At the moment each branch has its own membership cards, they are looking to create and introduce a standard membership card for use by everyone. There is not at present a complete database of RTRA members, that is also going to change, so things will tighten up a bit in that area. He also produced the latest RAC Recruiting area map which I thought would be of interest to many, so I kept it and have attached it for you to view. You see I do think of you!
