14 members were present for the September branch meeting, which was also the AGM. There was a recap of the Branch BBQ in August with those attending agreeing that it was again a superb event. Members were again reminded about the RAF Battle of Britain church service on Sunday 9th September.
The Secretary gave an update on the plans to lay a wreath on 4th November 2018 in Poole at the grave of a Canadian soldier who died on 4th November 1918. We have recevied a copy of his service record from the Canadian High Commission in London. The branch was able to view this and gain an insight to the person we will be remembering. The wreath we will be laying was available to view.
Cambrai Lunch application forms were available to all those that wanted one. All members present confirmed that they had received the Ladies Lunch menu and covering letter. Members were informed of the death of one Clifford Hall ex 2RTR, who although not a member of this branch lived in the local area. Details regarding the Wincanton 100, World War I commemerations on 6th October were available.
It was confirmed that the guest speaker for October will be Stephen Pope, who runs the "First Tank Crews" Facebook page, he will be telling the story of Cyril Coles from our area, who took part in the first Tank action at Flers in 1916.
Following a short recess the AGM commenced, the minutes of the 2017 AGM were available, and the branch address list was brought up to date. The Chairman gave his annual "state of the branch" address followed by comments by both the Secretary and Treasurer. Then it was time to confirm the committee for the next year. The Chairman confirmed that he was standing down and returning to the "back benches". Dave Larcombe put his name forward for the position of Chairman and was confirmed in the position by the members present. The Secretary is in place for another year, whilst Dave Larcombe will continue as Treasurer until a new person comes forward to assume those duties.
