18 members were present for the April 2018 branch meeting.
The Chairman gave an update on the search for a new Regimental Secretary. The secretary gave a description of the wreath laying in Bournemouth the previous week. The Chairman commented on the good turnout from the branch at the recent RTRA Church Service & Curry Lunch held at Bovington. An appeal was made for members to attend an RTR veterans funeral in Weymouth on 11th April. A number of members have confirmed that they will be attending. The branch was informed that we plan to lay a wreath in St Swithurns Church in Bournemouth on Saturday 14th April 2018. This is to commemorate Pte Frazer, Tank Corps, who died from his wounds in France on 14th April 2018. Pte Frazer's name is on the war memorial plaque inside the Church.
A final reminder was given about the ANZAC Ceremony being held in Weymouth on 25th April. Bob Darnell will be laying a wreath on behalf of the Branch. It was confirmed that at least 5 members will be present at Slapton Sands on Sunday 29th April 2018. This is the annual ceremony to remember those who died on Operation Tiger in Lyme Bay in 1944.
The wreath laying continues! It was confirmed that we will lay a wreath at the grave of Pte Harry Ward, Tank Corps, in Poole Cemetery at 11am on Saturday 26th May 2018, Pte Ward died on 26th May 1918 of injuries sustained in a RTA in Poole. We have received a request to be represented at the Dorchester Armed Forces Day Ceremony on 7th July 2018. Attendence will be on an individual basis.
Details of the offer to purchase the Cambrai 100 coin was given to members, one or two have said yes, we will mention it again next month. Details of the RTR march to the Cenotaph in November 2018 were given. Members were asked to confirm their wish to march on the Veterans Day Parade in Weymouth in June. It was confirmed that the Annual Branch BBQ would be held on 11th August. The Chairman asked for a volunteer or Volunteers to take on the task of organising the Ladies Lunch 2019. Dave Roberts and Mick Everton agreed to accept the task.
With both the Chairman and Secretary absent from the July 2018 branch meeting, members were asked to consider if they wished a scaled down "informal" meeting or to cancel the meeting altogether. A decision will be made in good time.
