September 2017
18 members were present for the first branch meeting since the summer break. Green fields was a nil return. Minutes of July 2017 branch meeting were passed. Frank Howell was thanked for hosting the annual Branch BBQ at his "ranch" in Colehill. Members have been invited to attend the annual Battle of Britain service at St Michaels Church in Poole on Sunday 10th September. The branch standard will be present.
Members were invited to join the Branch Secretary in laying a wreath at the grave in Bournemouth of Lt Scowen, Tank Corps, on Sunday 24th September 2017, to remember the Centenary of his death (September 1917). Details were given about the opening of the Field of Remembrance in London on Thursday 9th November 2017. Names were taken of those wishing tickets, (20 are available for the RTRA). Members were reminded about the RTR march to the Cenotaph on Sunday 19th November 2017. It was confirmed that the RTRA AGM would be held on the same day.
Advance notice was given that it is planned to lay a wreath at the grave of Pte Harry Ward, Tank Corps, on Saturday 26th May 2018, 100 years to the day that he died. His grave is in Poole Cemetery. Much more detail regarding this will be available in the new year.
The secretary showed the branch an RTR flag purchased on E-Bay for £4.95. Our current fabric flag is showing it's age and since it's only used to decorate the official table at branch meetings it was suggested that this "surprisingly good" polyester version should replace it. It was agreed to go ahead with this on the condition that we try to source a flag through official channels first.
The Treasurer gave details and took orders for a "Cambrai 100" fleece that has become available.
The AGM then commenced, minutes of the 2016 AGM were passed, the members address list was updated, the Chairman gave his annual address to the branch, the President made his comments, and the treasurer gave his annual address on our finances. The Welfare Officer announced his intention to stand down due to Job pressures affecting his ability to fulfill this role in the way he would like. It was decided that with "instant communication" available 24/7 due to social medis etc, the role of Welfare Officer was for our branch at least "redundant" and the post would be retired. We will simply look out for each other as we have always done.
No guest speaker in September because it is always a busy schedule straight after the summer break.
