14 members were present for the July meeting which is also the AGM. We held a minutes silence for Tommy Handley, one of our remaining WWII veterans who sadly died only a couple of days after the June branch meeting. He had been present at that meeting and looked quite well, so it was a real shock to learn of his death.
It was announced that one of our members, Anthony McKanny who died in March 2014 has left the branch the sum of £1000 in his will. This act of generosity caught us all by surprise.
Names were taken for the BBQ at the Amalgamation parade in August, and we have received a letter from RHQ RTR thanking us for our donation to RTRA central funds. Details were made available regarding the Lord Kitchener Memorial Holiday centre for Ex servicemen and Women in Lowestoft Suffolk. Feed back was given by those who attended the RAC Training Regiment Phase II recruits families open day. Feedback was also received on both the Burton (Dorset) and Weymouth armed forces day parades. A description of "TANKFEST 2014" was given by those who attended and Dave Roberts gave a verbal report on the Not Forgotten Association Garden Party at Buckingham Palace which he attended.
The summer edition of the Tank Mag was available to view ( we were expecting 3 copies but only one arrived) and the Bournemouth & Poole branch update escaped editing and was published in full, as was the article detailing the 1 RTR old comrades visit to Warminster submitted by Tiny Hart.
We then moved on to the AGM proper. The Chairman gave his annual address to the branch, the branch address list was made available to allow any changes and updates to be made and the treasurer gave an update on our finances. We continue to earn slightly more than we spend. The entire committee was again re-elected for a further 12 month term of office.
There is no meeting in August so the next meeting is on Tuesday 2nd September 2014.
