13 members this month, Dave Roberts and Mick Everton are still back packing in India and unlikely to be present again until the May meeting. We had to move upstairs due to the function room being double booked, it was unfair to expect the guest speaker to compete with a darts match.
Loyal toast/the regiment, no additions to the green fields, minutes of the last meeting carried. The London branch newsletter was available, the letter regarding the Ypres tank memorial parade in July was made available to view. Kevin Coughlin in his position as treasurer gave a breakdown of the accounts which show we are holding our own in the financial stakes. The attendance list for the RTR sponsored church service was available for use.
The guest speaker was then introduced. Capt James Larkin RTR is serving with the RAC Training Regiment at Bovington where phase 2 recruits are trained. James gave a quick rundown on phase 2 training ( we had a full briefing only a year ago from Cpl Slade 1 RTR)
and he then introduced three phase 2 recruits he had brought with him. The young soldiers had all completed phase 1 training at the Army Foundation College in Harrogate (the new version of JLR)and were now at Bovington on phase 2. One lad was going to 1 RTR,the other 2 were going to the second. Each introduced himself and then answered questions from the audience.
It was a masterstroke from Captain Larkin, The members were very interested in the young soldiers, firing question after question. The young lads were genuinely interested in the stories from the WWII veterans. It all went very very well.
Another successful branch meeting
