Not a meeting as such, the December meet is simply a social gathering where everyone brings some food for the buffet and a raffle prize. Branch funds were allocated to boost the prize list to a higher level. I did have to announce that we have lost one of our old and bold Doug Clark, not to the green fields but to the Royal Hospital Chelsea where he will be the newest in pensioner come January. Final returns for the January ladies lunch were handed in.
The very cold weather did not effect the turnout to a great extent and about 17 members were present. I won four prizes at the raffle, I actually had 11 winning tickets but was too embarrassed to accept any more prizes. The Ex serviceman's club bar had it's usual excellent selection of real ales and 3 pints of Thwaites Lancaster Bomber was the perfect accompaniment to the buffet. Like last year I brought pizza, but this year I actually cooked it at home rather than stopping off at Dominoes on the way to the meeting.
Highlight of the evening, a well received but complete surprise for the members was Cpl Forrest of 1RTR pipes and drums. The door opened and in he came, full kit, large RTR badge on his Glengarry and pipes well err "piping"
His turn was only for about six or seven minutes but the look of surprise and pleasure on the faces of the older members in particular made it all worthwhile.
January is the annual ladies lunch, so the next meeting will be in February.
