Only 12 members attended the October meeting, some were on holiday, others working, some were ill and some simply forgot!
The bits and pieces were quickly done, Graham Collins asked for sponsors for his charity bike ride around the Jurassic Coast and a good few (including me) coughed up the loot.
I was able to confirm that the guest speaker for November is 2Lt Woods of A Sqn 1RTR, he is going to update us on the goings on at Warminster and he is likely to bring some troopers with him including son of aghart.
It was soon time to introduce the guest speaker, Col (retd) John Longman, editor of the tank magazine. Until recently Col Longman was the Regimental Colonel and so remains at RHQ RTR. Col John replaced as editor Col George Forty who retired after 18 years in the hot seat.
We were surprised to find out that only about 2500 copies of the regimental journal are printed each time and of those only about 1000 are to individual subscribers. Overall profit on each issue of 2500 is a paltry £56, not a large amount by anyone's standards. The fact that there has not been a price increase in 16 years may have something to do with that.
As many will know, the regimental journal is now issued 3 times a year instead of 4 times as in the past. It is however now printed in colour, just about the last regimental journal to make the change. Items such as photo competitions and a larger letters page are planned, in fact greater input from the readership is hoped for to go alongside the input from the regiments and the association.
HOW CAN YOU HELP YOUR REGIMENT?
As stated earlier only about 1000 individuals subscribe to the Tank Mag, out of how many former tankies out there? The one single act YOU can do that will have a dramatic and positive effect for the Royal Tank Regiment is to subscribe to the Regimental Journal. It costs just £14 per year in the UK or BFPO or £20 a year overseas including the Republic of Ireland. For that you get 3 copies a year posted through your letter box and are thus kept up to date with all that is happening in the Regiment and Association. Your individual subscription will make a difference, lots of individual subscriptions will make a huge difference.

Above is the e-mail address to contact RHQ RTR. They will send you an application form.
Colonel Longman went on to give us the latest from rumour control regarding the forthcoming defence review. I assured him I would not publish anything regarding this as it is just rumour and/or an opinion and not as yet fact.
A deserved round of applause greeted the end of the presentation.
