The picture that was taken around 1967 time shows Don Wood with his wife Jill. Sadly both Don and wife Jill are no longer with us. Don passed away on the 28th December 2009 while Jill died some two years previously. In many ways there were so many talents that Don had that were lost that day too. He was of my age and era and both of us had served with the 3rd for many years. I think I am right in saying that we both served with the Regiment as far back as the Detmold days, of course there were other places too where we found ourselves serving together. I would never have described Don as being the athletic type, no his talents were much more academic, he was never more happy than when he was writing humorous and imaginative story lines. I always remember two words that invariably found their way into his writings, those words were immemorial and missive, whenever I see or use them I will invariably think of Don. I intimated that his talents were numerous. He also had a flair for woodwork, I believe on one occasion though I do not remember where they lived at the time that he created a mock Tudor ceiling. Don will also be remembered for his loyalty towards mess life and the many reunions he attended, he loved those social occasions when he had the opportunity to meet old friends and reminisce about times gone by. Rest in Peace Don.
