If it's not 1968, then perhaps 1976. But I think I can see your Dad in one of the photos but he only has two stripes, so that makes me think it can't be '76 because by then he had made sargeant if my memory's correct.

3rd pic front rank is stretch gibbs playing at been r/h marker next tankies up could be ron lee and tiny reynolds (rip) on last pic def ginge blackman and poss tony pierce on rear rank and 3rd man coul be dennis stone.i dont think its 66 cos we hadnt been issued with plumes then it may have been early 77 rehearsals for h.r.h jubilee celebrations,im not 100% sure though.

It has got to be sometime between 67-69 IMHO, when the Regiment was Armd Recce in Aliwal Bks, as you can see a few Saladins parked up in pics 1,3 & 5!

When was the last time you saw a 3 RTR RSM that small?!!

3 RTR served in Tidworth during the period January 1968 to December 1969 and again from May 1976 to January 1978.
I do remember Ron Clooney (RIP) being the RSM during the 68/69 period. I also remember that there was an almighty cock up on one of the parades during that period. The CO at the time who's name escapes me thought he could take the parade unrehearsed but failed miserably resulting in a right shambles. The Co's fault entirely, the RSM did his best in encouraging him to rehearse.

Unless ther is another reason, maybe someone who's done an 'All Arms' drill course at Pirbright can enlighten us all.......................... Pecker over to you!!!

Wasn't the COs name Saunders, who made the cock-up. I remember it well, I was a spectator for this parade and heard some very un-flattering remarks from some quite high-ranking spectators in the stand close to me.

Maid I dont remember when Ron Clooney joined us, but I do remember him on our first stint at Catterick, he ran the Radio Wing as a Sgt or S/SGT, up at the top of "Shaiba lines" I think they were called. at the time I ran the Radio wing transport, as a Cpl.

Definitely 68 in Tidworth, Dennis Healey (Defence Minister) took the salute. The CO cocked up bringing the regt to attention, he forgot we were all stood easy.

It was 1968 as I was on that parade and there was a lot of mutterings about it being the biggest F__k since Gallipoli.

HQ Squadron were complimented by the OC for not moving when Lt Col Saunders cocked up the order. This was a "Trooping the Colour" parade just before A Sqn left for Sharjah.
