GONE TO THE GREEN FIELDS.
I have to report the passing To The Green Fields of the following TANKIE:
Thomas Mein
Ex 3rd Royal Tank Regiment.
The son (Douglas) of the above has written to me from Canada to say that his father passed away on Friday 13th July 2007. Would I please pass on this information to all members of 3RTR and to all who he knew through 2nd 3rd 6th RTRA.
Though Tom lived in Canada for many years, he supported the Association and always made a donation to us to ensure that he was kept up to date and received the Association Newsletters when published.
Tom served in 5 Campaigns: FRANCE, NORTH AFRICA, ITALY, CERMANY and BURMA, holding various medals which included these campaign STARS.
As my records are not completely up to date I have asked his son to send me any details that he can about his father and I will print them in the next newsletter early next year.
DECEMBER 2007 NEWSLETTER.
BLACKPOOL MAY 2007.
I have received many requests for the booking form for the weekend from Friday 9th to Sunday 11th of May. If you have not booked yet, I have attached a spare copy at the end of this newsletter for you.
Remember if you book and cannot attend in May, all monies will be returned to you including deposits, which are only £ 25.00 per person.
Several have asked for single rooms; these are always getting booked up very early but I still have some of these rooms left, so get that form in ASAP.
BLACKPOOL MAY 2011.
I know what you are thinking: what is he on about so far in advance of this date?
Well, remember from information I have been able to gather from all you old TANKIES it seems that these reunions was started in 1961 by Jim Caswell and Tony Fahey. These 3RTR meetings started in a pub in Blackpool, for a pie and a pint. The small gatherings just got bigger and bigger from 3RTR to include 2RTR and then 6RTR up to what they are now. Blackpool Council would like to do something special for us for the BIG 50. I would like to start getting soundings from you all on what you would like and should we take up the Council’s offer. I have mentioned this at the last RTR AGM in London to see if we could get any back up from RHQ. The General (Lieutenant General Andrew Leakey CMG CBE) thought this could be a very good ideal and would arrange to give what support from himself and both Regiments, along with RHQ, that would be possible. Maybe it should be an RTR WEEKEND. It was suggested that we approach THE LOTTERY FUND for finance, and again the Regimental Colonel said he would help in putting forward a request and filling in the forms.
So what I suggest is that we approach all BRANCHES and 1st 4th 7th RTRA to see if they would like to come in with this one and make it a bumper weekend, by joining the 2nd 3rd 6th RTRA for this special weekend.
WHAT DO YOU THINK?
SUBS and DONATIONS.
Once again I have to mention this, it is only your subs each year along with that extra donation you send in that allows me to keep the newsletters going out to you. On average the postage comes to over £ 60.00 each time as I am sending out about 250 letters and 15 of these go overseas to places such as CANADA (2), AUSTRALIA (6), GERMANY (3), SPAIN (2), MALTA (1), and USA (1). These overseas TANKIES always ensure that they send a donation as well to cover their postage costs.
To the ones who do not send in anything, can I ask you to consider doing so. Also, as many of the people who are on the mailing list do not write to me or keep in touch, we must consider removing them from the list. I do not know if they are still with us, or going to wrong addresses or passed to the GREEN FIELDS and we have not been informed.
All monies will be gratefully received from you.
TANKIE SHOP.
Just a reminder to you all that I do hold a small collection of items for you to purchase for which I attach a copy for you to study and order.
After several requests for MY BOY WILLIE, I have just received some more CDs of The Regimental March from RHQ: the cost of these are £ 5.00 all proceeds from this go the help support The Royal Tank Regimental Benevolent Fund.
STANDARDS PARADE.
We are still awaiting confirmation of the date for this parade from RHQ who are
awaiting Buckingham Palace; when received I will let you know.
It has been pointed that this parade when arranged will be only open to a list given by me to RHQ who must me EX RTR and immediate families of past members of The Royal Tank Regiment (no others allowed due to numbers wanting to go).
note i have up date on site (pecker)
WHERE ARE YOU NOW?
I have received the following request to find an OLD TANKIE FRIEND.
