I have been lent a photo album by a relative which belonged to his late father Tom Lindsey. Tom served with 6RTR during the Desert Campaign, he joined the 6th at Mena Camp in Egypt during 1942. He later served in Iraq and at some stage was injured doing some track bashing (who hasn't! ) on his Grant, apparently out of the blue some enemy appeared and Tom didn't hear the warning and was the only one left holding the crow-bar while the rest of his crew took cover, the tank moved slightly and he received a ruptured stomach for his efforts. As a consequence he was never to regain full fitness and lost command of his tank and ended up operating. At the Mena Cafe enjoying an ice cold lemonade! Tom is on the Left, with Ted Cross next but one and Ron Jarrett on the right. Mena Cafe...........change of photographer! Ron Jones on a course at the RAC Depot Abbassia, Egypt. Dick Ferguson Mena Camp, Egypt. George Hambleton. Tom Lindsey. Iraq! Some members of 8 Tp B Sqn 6RTR, which include:- Spider, Busty, Bill, Tom, Taffy, Joe, Alec & Joe. On top of the Lebanese Mts, Tom is in the back row wearing a 'Claude Greengrass' coat and has his hand's in his pockets! Ted Cross,Tom's operator on his first leave in Bari, Italy. If anyone can put any more names to the faces it would be apprieciated, Association members feel free to copy the pics and show them at your meetings!

I showed the articles written by Sgt Ron Jarrett in the 'Tank' entitled 'Travels of a Trooper' to Tom's son Pete, as Tom gets a mention. Pete has pointed out that the guy Ted in the last pic could be Ted Cross and Ron Jarrett is sat on the RHS in the Mena Cafe pics!

S54 if it helps the owner of the album they moved too Quassassin Camp on the 5/6 Jan and spent the next couple of months getting manning strengths up. In June they handed in their tanks and got Grant replacements before joining 4th Armd Bde part of 7th Armd Div.
Their first task was to deploy and deal with possible counter attack after 1st and 3rd RTR had completed an attack toward Bir El Harmat. The counter attack was to have a possible enemy strength of 50 tanks.
I notice it took a bit of time for the cap badge to catch up with the men in the last 3 pictures.
I have seen that a Tpr Jones R was either missing or a POW at some stage and that Tpr G Hambleton was injured on the 10/09/44 at Cemetry Hill by either a vehicle roll over or from arty fire.
