19 members were present for the April 2017 branch meeting.
Loyal Toast/ The Regiment
Green Fields and Welfare were taken care of and minutes of the March meeting were passed. The branch voted to provide funds for a Mini Bus so that Bill Stebbings, One of our last two WWII veterans could attend the Buckingham Palace Garden Party being held by the Not Forgotten Association in May 2017. One of actions that make you realise that there is still a place for the old fashioned branch network, the internet is not completely supreme, well not yet anyway. Members were reminded about the Weymouth and Burton Armed Forces Day parades, and reminded that the final call for names of those wishing to march at Weymouth will be taken at the May meeting.
An update on Cambrai 100 given by HHQ RTR was given out to those assembled. It was announced that the Branch BBQ will be held on Sat 12th August 2017.
It was agreed to book early with HHQ for RTR wreaths this year as we will require quite a few due to expected events. One of these is the planned wreath laying at the grave of 2nd Lt Scowen who died in September 1917 and is buried in the cemetery on Gloucester Road in Bournemouth. His is the first of 4 "Centenary" deaths in our area in the next two years. We are going to try to find relatives to let them know what is going to happen, we also intend to get both Bovington and the Regiment involved, this just might get a lot bigger than initially planned!
No guest speaker this month but a busy and enjoyable meeting no the less.
