13 members present for the October meeting. Loyal toast, toast to the regiment were give. Minutes of the September meeting were passed. Dave Clarke and Dave Larcombe have both been selected to represent the Association at the opening of the Garden of Remembrance in London on 6th November. It was confirmed that obituaries for our three recently deceased members and a branch update have been received by RHQ RTR for inclusion in the Winter edition of the Tank. It was agreed to provide £50 for raffle prizes for both the December raffle and the Ladies lunch in January.
The meeting then closed and the Chairman introduced the guest speaker WO1 Helen Nolan of the Royal Signals. Helen holds the appointment of Yeoman of Signals. She gave a description of her job and went into detail about the role of women in the army. It appears that 1 in 8 soldiers in the Royal Signals is a woman. Lots of interest from the audience and lots of questions, all on the subject of women in front line units. There was quite a debate on the subject with Helen providing a lot of facts. The discussion went on far longer than the usual 30 minutes or so, in fact the Chairman had to bring the discussion to an end otherwise it might have gone on till midnight! Nothing like a controversial subject to get things going.
A lively evening, numbers down slightly but that in a strange way shows the strength of the branch, we have good number of younger members who are not retired, still work and quite often cannot make the meetings due to work commitments.
Fear Naught
