1st Parades Lumsden Barracks 'Fally' circa 76, ISTR we were having one just prior to the handover to 4/7th outside MB46. B*ll 'The Baby Crusher' D**ison was giving us a bit of chewing when we heard the sound of a 432 approaching WTF , everybody looked over thier left shoulders to see a p*ssed 'Weed' H**ton heading towards the formed up Sqn. Now instead of stopping he pulled right stick and went up onto the grass, ripping it all up with the right hand track! B*ll went fcuking loopy, those in 'Bumble' on this thread should remember that!!! ;D
Tank Park mortar attacks, I remember them an all, in particular the dustbin that landed in front of our hangars, which came over from C Sqn you..................................TWWWAAAATTTTTSSSS! Another great tank park pastime was acting the 'Mong'. Everytime tanks were heard approaching along the range road a shout would go out and every 'Swinging Dick' would run to the perimeter fence, pull their beret down over their ears, roll their denims up to thier knees and then wave like 'Mongs' at the passing panzers, dribbling at the same time! This went on for weeks and I think we hit the same German Leopard squadron at least twice, then one day the call to 'Mong' went out, we legged it to the fence got ready and waited..................only to watch the Germans doing the same back to us, who says the 'Wurst-Munchers' haven't got a sense of humour?!! ;D
Sadly the X country run to the tank park is no more, it was all overgrown by the time we came back in 92, they've also put up an inner security fence and between B & C Sqn blocks and the tank park they've built an all weather sports pitch, that's progress for you! We used to lay in ambush on that track and wait for 'Squeaker' W*lch to ride passed on his moped and then swoop out and knock him off into the mud, I think we got the idea from the film 'Rollerball'!!!
