It is with deep regret that I have to inform you that Roger (Brummy) Northwood died quite recently, I am afraid I do not know the circumstances. Brummy lived in Cheltenham and like myself I do not doubt there will be many who will not have remembered him for his skill on the ranges when using small arms. He represented the Regiment at many of the skill at arms meetings with such people as John Treffry, Sgt Nolan & Sgt Wallington.
RIP Brummy.

I realise I am seeing this very late but anyway.
I was a student at Cheltenham College when Brummy came to take over the running of the CCF from the then head Knobby Cockhead.
Brummy had his own brummie ways of doing things which was such a contrast to the prim and proper boarding school surroundings he was now immersed in.
I was an outsider at the school for a lot of the time and Brummy recognised that and was a real mentor and friend as I grew up around him for a few years before I left Cheltenham.
He was an immensely proud man and always wore his RTR badges and uniform and always you heard "well in the RTR it was different".
As a well spoken middle class kid he was such fun and had a devilish twinkle in his eye all the time.
I was also a member of the College shooting team and he was just grand in how he took us around the country for matches.
Infact it was on one trip down to Marlborough that Brummy was taken ill and hospitalised.
My life went through changes and the last time I saw Brummy was when he was a College porter.
I recall his wife Vicky and son Sven, I think there was a daughter.
My most sincere condolences to his widow and the children.
Brummy was a big part of my life and a huge influence in how I turned out and why I did not go off the rails.
You at the RTR should take credit in the man you produced from the boy soldier he was.
Many fond memories of him
Thank you for posting this.
I now live in Canada
Robin
